Library Catalogue & Policies

About the Catalogue

Main Features:

Formerly called the Video Catalogue, this catalogue contains descriptions for all the media circulated by the Academic Technology Media Resource Library. The online catalogue is updated as items are received. We encourage corrections and suggestions to improve the usefulness of this catalogue. E-mail atmedia@grove.ufl.edu.

The Media Resource Library Catalogue descriptions have been edited for conciseness; they are not intended to give all the information that might be useful to users, but rather as a reminder of what the item is about for those already familiar with the content. Those not familiar with the content of an item should use the description to judge whether to preview the item. Much fuller information about theatrical films is online at the Internet Movie Database.

We do not maintain a mailing list.

About the Media Library

Main Function:

The audio-visual material in the Media Resource Library collection has been purchased in cooperation with various departments and is a shared resource intended for classroom instruction by faculty. If you need a title we don't have, see below under Acquisitions.

Lending Policies:

Faculty at the University of Florida may borrow the materials. Teaching assistants or other staff may borrow from the library, but they must provide, each term, a letter of introduction or other proof from their department stating that they are teaching classes. In addition, a faculty member may deputize staff or students to check out material in the faculty member's name. A signed letter of deputization is required.

The Media Resource Library does not borrow from – or lend to – any other institutions, nor does it provide any help for those wishing to do that.

Video titles containing the letters "fs" preceding the call number have been purchased for the library by the Film Studies Program; however, they may be used by others as long as it is for legitimate classroom instruction. 16mm titles belonging to Film Studies may not be used by others without permission from the English Department's Film Studies Program Director.

Student Reserve Use:

At an instructor's request, the Media Library staff will place videotapes on reserve at Marston Science Library (or in the LLC for language courses) for student viewing in association with a specific class. Videos may remain on reserve until the end of a semester; however, since classroom instruction must take precedence over reserve viewing, a video may be recalled at any time. Recalled videos will be put back on reserve as soon as possible.

UF Smathers Libraries: UF Course Reserve

Use of library media is restricted to instructional purposes, for courses offered by the University of Florida. Use of media for entertainment is forbidden.

Bookings:

Video materials should be booked for showing in advance. Media may be booked by telephone during open hours or, subject to confirmation, by e-mail to the library head. For multiple bookings, please send a written list or course syllabus to the Media Resource Library.

Deliveries:

The Media Resource Library provides delivery of films and videos only to on-campus educational media centers (e.g. Marston Science Library) and P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School. We do not deliver to classrooms or offices.

Acquisitions:

There will be no matching funds acquisitions for fiscal year 2002-2003. For questions about this change in policy, e-mail atmedia@grove.ufl.edu.
