United Devices has sent the GridMP version 4.1

United Devices has sent us the GridMP software version 4.1. We are currently testing this version on the new server hardware and expect to have it available in one to two weeks. GridMP 4.1 now allows for agents to be installed on AIX 4.2, Solaris 8 and 9. In addition, the management console has been updated with interface improvements and better reporting mechanisms.

Grid computing training starts July 26th

Three training sessions will be performed by United Devices for principal parties involved with the grid project. Training will focus on three areas: Application Porting, Educational Material Development, and BLAST Training. See the Training Outline for schedule and curriculum.

First HMMER computations successfully run on the test grid

The first HMMER computations using real input data have been successfully run on the test grid. Approximately 50 queries on a PFAM database were performed by the 130 clients currently connected to the grid. This operation took just under six hours to perform. Installation of the new server hardware, addition of the full number of clients, and performance tuning of the HMMER operations should reduce this completion time significantly

Server hardware arrives

Production server hardware has arrived and is in the process of being prepared for the installation of the grid server software. The server is a dual Xeon processor machine with 2 gigs of RAM and 100 gigs of storage
